Sal Island

Sal is an island for sun and beach lovers! From above, the constant bright sun and clear clouds share the blue sky in perfect harmony. On the flat surface, kilometers of white sandy beaches and turquoise waters contrast with the red aridity of the island.

The trade winds temper the local heat and shape perfect waves for water sports enthusiasts including surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing. The beaches of Ponta Preta and Kite Beach are obligatory stops for those who don't want to miss a good wave.

The island of Sal also has an extensive, low and regular underwater platform ideal for snorkeling and diving. This allows for experiences such as swimming with lemon sharks in Shark Bay and diving in coral reefs. The volcanic lava pool of Buracona is another unmissable spot for a restorative dip in its jade-colored waters.

The island played an important role in the history of the archipelago with the salt extraction industry, from which the island derives its name. A visit to the Salinas de Pedra de Lume, a volcanic crater below sea level, is a window into the island's emblematic past. If you're passing through, you can't miss a therapeutic bath in the salty waters.

Despite significant tourism, Sal still preserves a characteristic dynamic of island life. On the pontoon of Santa Maria, the frenzy of fishermen and fish sellers mixes with the easy joy of local children and teenagers jumping and juggling in the crystal-clear waters. Palmeiras, a small fishing village in the west of the island, invites you to stroll through its streets of pastel-colored houses and enjoy beautiful sunsets over the harbor, while tasting good fresh fish.

But Sal is not all about the beach and the sun. Handicrafts from both local and mainland artists can be seen in various parts of the island. Nightlife in bars and clubs is another highlight of the island, bringing together the local population and visitors from all over the world to share different experiences.

The charms of Sal await you. Come and allow your feet to sink into the warm, fine sands, the wind to sway your hair freely, the sun to gild your skin intensely as your body plunges into the crystal-clear waters. Let yourself feel the salt!
